Who I am?

Welcome to my web page :D

Thanks for visiting. If we have not met yet, let me introduce myself. My name is Rosa, I live in Mexico City with my husband and my cats.

Since 2025, I'm a faculty member at the Instituto de Astronomía, UNAM.

Since when I was a child, I always wished I dedicated to the study of the universe.

I finished my career in Physics at the Facultad de Ciencias, UNAM, México. After that, I studied a Master in Astrophysics, focused on astronomical instrumentation.

For the PhD, I moved on to the high-energy field to work with gamma-ray bursts. In May 2019, I obtained my PhD with the dissertation titled: Estudio de emisiones ópticas tempranas y tardías con el telescopio robótico COATLI under the supervision of Dr. Alan Watson and Dr. William Lee obtaining the Alfonso Caso medal, awarded for the best PhD thesis in the Astrophysics Postgraduate Program.

I was postdoc at the Instituto de Ciencias Nucleares, UNAM under the supervision of Dr. Fabio De Colle. Later, I joined the Dipartamento di Fisica, Università degli Studi Tor Vergata, under the supervision of Dr. Eleonora Troja.

In 2025, I returned to Mexico and joined the Instituto de Astronomía, UNAM, where I now carry out my research on high-energy and transient astrophysics, work with students, and participate in several national and international collaborations.

I share my life with my husband Antonio and our cats Ofelia, Naia, Cosimo and Lyra. We got married nine years ago, and we are very happy.

About hobbies, I love to learn other languages. I speak fluently English, have an intermediate level of French and Italian. On the other hand, I enjoy cooking, drawing and reading. Moreover, I am a big fan of football and soccer.

I am also passionate about communicating science. One of my favorite parts of being an astronomer is sharing the excitement of discovering and understanding the Universe through public talks, workshops, and outreach activities.

If I had to describe myself in a few words, I would say that I am curious, loyal, persistent, and enthusiastic about making things happen...whether that means pursuing a scientific question, starting a new collaboration, helping a student, or finding a new way to share astronomy with others 😍
